Chicago MCA, UA 597 Provide "Heat For Heroes"
The Mechanical Contractors Association of Chicago (MCA) and Pipefitters Local Union (LU) 597 have developed Heat for Heroes, providing free repair of home heating systems for Chicago-area military families in need. With more than 15,000 active duty troops from the Chicago area alone, service contractors who belong to MCA and the HVAC service technicians from LU 597 are working through Operation Homefront of Illinois to help spread the word.
Registration Begins For RPA 2010

President Calls For "HomeStar" Legislation
In remarks made while touring a training facility at Savannah Technical College, President Obama called for Congress to enact legislation to encourage consumers to purchase and install highly energy efficient HVAC and water heating equipment. The President outlined more details of a new "HomeStar" program that he said would help create jobs by encouraging American families to invest in energy saving home improvements.
 PHCC Names Kennedy Staff Chief
Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association named Gerry Kennedy the new executive vice president of PHCC. Kennedy, who has served as interim executive vice president since Jan. 28, has been the PHCC vice president of education and COO for the PHCC Educational Foundation for the past 12 years.
PHC Groups Oppose Construction Health Care Angle
ASA, HARDI and PHCC are among 26 organizations calling for the U.S. Senate to oppose any healthcare reform legislation that includes the controversial "construction industry provision." This provision passed in the Senate health care reform bill in late 2009 would apply the bill's coverage mandates exclusively to construction-related employers with five or more employees.

Grundfos Opens Peerless Facility Near Houston
Grundfos Pumps announced the grand opening of a new Peerless Engineered Systems (PES) building. The 45,000+ sq. ft. facility was built outside Houston in Brookshire, TX. The building shares land with Grundfos Commercial Building Services (formally PACO Pumps), and will be home to the PES division of Peerless Pump Co.
Raypak Offers Revit BIM Files
Raypak has available Autodesk Revit BIM files of their entire product line of commercial boilers, water heaters and storage tanks. ITT Bell & Gossett announced a new extensive online library of 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) content files in Autodesk® Revit® 2010. A total of 113 Revit families and 5,252 types have been created for the following product lines:

Heating Oil Tanks Made In U.S.
Atlantic Tanks, a division of Atlantic Systems Group, announced that its residential heating oil tanks are made in the USA again. In June 2009 Atlantic Systems Group (ASG) acquired Bristol Tank and Welding in Langhorne, PA, and formed its Atlantic Tanks division for manufacturing and distribution of residential heating oil tanks. Gary Snyder, President and CEO of ASG, said "U.S. consumers have been limited to purchasing only imported products through the wholesale and retail supply chain. We want to provide the consumer with a quality tank at a competitive price that is Made in the USA."
 Uponor Names Hoyt To Head Ecoflex National Sales
Uponor recently hired Sandy Hoyt as national account manager for Ecoflex® - a flexible, durable pre-insulated pipe system for underground potable-water and hydronic heating, cooling and hot water applications. Ecoflex has been a part of the North American building market since 1989, primarily in commercial and residential applications. Hoyt is expected to extend its sales scope to new sectors of the industrial and institutional arenas.

Taco, Inc.'s non-profit John & Happy White Foundation, established in 2000, is now the White Family Foundation. Recent gifts included $10,000 to the House of Hope Community Development Corporation of Warwick, which provides permanent housing and social services to families and individuals in need. The Glitch
Overview: A multiple boiler system has been configured to supply two loads as shown below.
Exercise: There are several piping errors in this proposed design. Can you spot at least five of them?
The Fix
I've shown two solutions: The first stays with primary/secondary piping and the other uses a hydraulic separator. Both are viable.
The solution using the hydraulic separator allows the supply temperature to each load circuit to be equal.
With the primary/secondary system, the supply temperature to the downstream load circuit will be lowered if the upstream secondary circuit is operating.
