Design of Solar & Geothermal Energy Systems w/John Siegenthaler

Two technical seminars and a product show for engineers.

Interest in active solar energy and geothermal heat pump systems is increasing as fast as the price of conventional fuel. Engineering firms and mechanical contractors are being asked to incorporate these subsystems into both residential and commercial HVAC systems.

To address this need, the Center for Community and Economic Development at Mohawk Valley Community College will offer a unique seminar and trade show event addressing both topics.

The morning seminar (8-11 a.m.) will cover design concepts for active solar thermal systems including collector types, efficiency, freeze protection methods, control options, and piping design for both domestic water heating and space heating applications.

The afternoon seminar (1-4 p.m.) will cover the design of geothermal heat pump systems, including how they operate, earth heat exchanger options, performance factors, sizing information and how geothermal systems can be combined with hydronic distribution systems.

A two-hour trade show/lunch buffet will take place between the two seminars (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Several companies will display hardware related to both solar and geothermal energy systems on display. Attendees can choose to attend either three-hour seminar and the midday trade show/buffet, or register for the entire day. Each half-day seminar provides three professional development hours (PDH) toward NYS Professional Engineers continuing education requirements.

THE INSTRUCTOR:
John Siegenthaler, P.E. is a mechanical engineering graduate of Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute and a licensed professional engineer. He has 30 years of experience in designing hydronic heating systems including solar and geothermal subsystems. John is an Associate Professor of engineering technology at Mohawk Valley Community College, and author of the text Modern Hydronic Heating.

Seminar Fee: $165 per three-hour seminar, or $299 for both seminars if registration and payment is received by Oct. 1, 2008. $180 each or $330 for both seminars for registrations received after Oct. 1, 2008. 10% discount for three or more attendees from same firm. Seminar manual, lunch, and breaks provided.
